Anyway, the Kingston Freeman ran an editorial about Poskanzer's decision to leave SUNY New Paltz for Carleton College in Minnesota.
I made comments, which you'll see below the editorial. I would have only made one comment, but a couple of other comment-makers insisted on misunderstanding what I wrote. So I went back and clarified.

No mystery to his departure. He makes about $239K at SUNY. In 2007, Carleton paid its President about $534,000 plus another $100K in benefits and expense account. The chance to more than double your salary and escape working in a state system where your at the mercy of a dysfunctional government and report to a chancellor make this an easy move.
That's a pretty good haul. Comes out to about $250.00 per student in salary, not counting the benefits (that would push it over $300).
Yes, that would lure me away from the East Coast.
So we can conclude that Poskanzer is a "show me the money" kind of guy and isn't leaving because of any embarrassment over his imperious and disrespectful treatment of the New Paltz community.
I'm thinking about sending a small donation to Carleton to help reimburse them for the favor.
Have to agree with your comments at the Freeman. It's not inconceivable that Poskanzer was a nice guy, a good, friend to some, and a clueless tyrant when it came to community relations. His prison remark should have embarrassed the hell out of him, but it didn't. My thought when I heard it was, "OK, just balance the equation then, put a 12-foot high fence around the campus to keep the students in so that, like prisoners, they won't put any demands on the surrounding communities police, ambulance, and other resources, and we'll call it even."
